    Aeschines oratoris [Αισχίνης], Atheniensis Epistolae [Επιστολαί], Parisiis 1555. FIRST EDITION of the famous 12 letters (epistolae) attributed to the Athenian orator and statesman Aeschines, the rarest of his works. The discovery of the Epistolae of Aischines in a manuscript in early 16th century made possible this important Humanist edition. Guillon who prepared the edition was a pupil of Guillaume Bude, the most famous Greek scholar in Renaissance France. Small in 4to, 22x15cm, woodcut decorative initials complete, modern marbled paperboards imitating Renaissance paper binding, text clear and bright, almost perfect condition. Only three copies in all public libraries worldwide (Harvard, BNF and Lyon). Adams A261. Extremely rare first edition of an Aeschines work!

A superb achievement of early printing with magnificent contemporary colored head piece and initials. In 8vo, almost contemporary, late 16th /early 17th century, very richly gilt fine red leather, slightly rubbed, text clean and bright, overall a magnificent set. Complete, only Greek text in first part, 122p., with Latin commentary at the end, second part, 54p. with separate second title page, in Latin, complete both parts in one. Fine Greek printing with the famous Greeks of the king letters. First title with woodcut basilisk of Morel, second title with Estienne device woodcut (first Robert Estienne II publication), woodcut head pieces and decorative initials, some with fine contemporary colors and heightened in gilt. Three previous owner’s armorial bookplates to front free endpaper. This superb 16th century publication, after the newly then discovery of several Anacreon poems, made accessible a quantity of the famous ancient Greek Lyric poems, in their original language, to the European contemporary public. In 12o, contemporary full vellum in very good condition, text clean and bright, complete 427p. [14], overall a fine set for its age. The Greek text has been newly edited, for this edition, by G. Canter, a leading Dutch Hellenist of its time and according Sandys, Canter opens a new area as an editor of the Tragic poets of Greece.     ΑΡΙΣΤΟΤΕΛΟΥΣ [Aristotelis]: ΟΡΓΑΝΟΝ [Organum], Frankfurt 1598. 16th century very rare edition of the most perplex and difficult work of Aristotelis, a very early critical edition. Tall 8vo, fine contemporary binding with full vellum pasted over with ornamental contemporary paper with handmade flowers decoration, slightly rubbed in places the paper, but still a magnificent 16th century binding work, text clean, very light spotting in few places, complete, 949p., one page in the index, slightly torn, parallel text in Greek and Latin. According to Aristotelis the knowledge and the language are linked and the structure of Greek is a natural Organum for the understanding of the structure of the world. Since antiquity many scholars debate a lot about several meanings of this supreme work of the ancient Greek philosopher. Still remain a masterpiece of Philosophy, here in a very early, 16th century edition in its original Greek. A very rare edition prepared critically by Professor G. Pacio. Up to modern times, very few could deal in debt with this supreme work of human philosophy. Adams 3529. All Organum early editions are very rare.

In 4to, 20x17cm, contemporary full vellum in almost fine condition for its age, text clean and bright, all four works complete: [14], 252p. [12], 48p., 113p, 109p., overall a very good set. Parallel text in original Greek and Latin translation of Τέχνη Ρητορική of Aristotelis. Latin text for the commentaries. Schreider, a professor of Greek philosophy in Germany, did a fantastic critical work on Aristotelis, he worked on several manuscripts and studied previous works on Aristotelis extensively, from George of Trebisond up to Hermolaus Barbarus. The text of Aristotelis, in a variety of places, has been improved according juxtaposition from the several manuscripts. This critical edition remains a milestone for the study of the Aristotelian work. Rare.

Royal Folio 40x26cm, parallel text in original Greek and Latin translation, contemporary full leather in very good condition, additionally modern cloth protective slipcase, spine richly gilt, complete: title in red and black [36], 34p., 728p., 48p., 123p. and the 2 superb big, double page, copper engraved maps of Greece and Sicily, spine ends slightly skillfully repaired and very few wear at edges, text bright, a fine and clean copy with ample margins. The most important edition of Thoukididis work since the 16th century and an impressive performance by Karl Duker (1670-1752), a German classical scholar, who included the unpublished commentary left manuscript by the Cambridge scholar J. Wasse. According Dibdin, one of the most sumptuous and erudite productions. Thoukididis history remains even today current, it is actually studied extensively in high political circles in the USA, in the frame of the actual confrontation with China, which reflects, more or less, the same terms of confrontation, as between Athens and Sparta. Hofmann III 553. An impressive edition of a monumental work.
